Fern Bowl
$14Our house granola, cultured yoghurt, and whatever the farm sent.
Fort Greene · Brooklyn
Stone-milled flour, slow mornings, and more ferns than seats. Open from seven on Adelphi Street, most days.

Why we opened
We started with sixty plants and one very small oven. The plants multiplied first. Now the mill runs on Tuesdays, the sourdough starter has a name, and the pothos in the back window has made it most of the way across the ceiling.
Everything is made here, in the morning, in quantities that run out. We think that’s the point.
The room
A narrow storefront with a south-facing window, a communal walnut table, and a back corner that stays cool all summer. Everything not nailed down has something growing out of it.

The regulars
I came in for a coffee and stayed four hours reading. Nobody once looked at my table like they wanted it back.

Saturday mornings
One short note a week: the specials, the pastry that sold out fastest, and whichever plant is misbehaving.
